Not to be left out...

I have seen several people post about their canning success, so I thought I should too. It was my first time in adulthood making anything besides jelly. It was fun and I was glad that my mother and father in law wanted to do it too! You know the saying, "many hands..." We did peaches on wednesday and pears on Thursday. What a week.

We ended up with 22 quarts of pears and 12 quarts and 23 pints of peaches. This doesn't mean that's how many we canned. I lost a couple:( When we got home late Thursday we just stacked the boxes of jars in the pantry-I was so tired and I needed to clear shelf space, so I didn't want to put them away that night. I was clearing the floor of junk and things and as I looked over the tower of hard work was toppling over. I lost 2 quarts of pears (they were still hot) and a pint of peaches. It was so sad. The really awful thing, is that my pantry is next to my laundry room, so all of the juice was flowing through the doorway, across the room into the drain. Broken glass, hot fruit, and syrup-yuck!

It has also been the time of year for the caselot sales, so my pantry is stocked. I LOVE to see my pantry like this. The only thing that could make it better, would be the lovely chocolate and butterscotch chips for baking holiday treats! I also need to figure out what all of those paint cans are-they aren't ours- I just need to toss them. And you can see in the picture one sad thing I discovered when cleaning my pantry-I only have one jar of my Aunt Linda's seedless jam (a wedding gift)-it is the BEST. I have avoided opening it, because I don't want it to be all gone!
